A drooping upper eyelid caused by weakness of the levator muscle. Can impair vision and cause a tired or asymmetrical appearance. Corrected by tightening the levator muscle under local anaesthetic as a day case.
Removal of excess skin from the upper eyelid (dermatochalasis). Improves the visual field when skin overhangs the lashes, and can significantly refresh the appearance of the eye area.
Corrects an outward-turning lower eyelid. Ectropion commonly causes watering, irritation, and redness. Age-related laxity is the most common cause. Repaired with a short day-case procedure.
Corrects an inward-turning eyelid causing eyelashes to rub the surface of the eye. If untreated, entropion can cause corneal damage. Surgical correction provides immediate relief.
Chalazion, meibomian cysts, papillomata, and other eyelid lesions can be assessed and removed under local anaesthetic. Histology sent where appropriate.
Excessive watering (epiphora) may be caused by drainage problems, lid malposition, or ocular surface conditions. Mr Evans assesses the cause and advises on the most appropriate management.

Consent, measurement, and preparation. For ptosis, levator function is carefully measured. For blepharoplasty, skin marking is planned.
Day-case procedure under local anaesthetic. Most lid operations take 30 to 60 minutes. You go home the same day.
Sutures removed at one week. Swelling settles over two to four weeks. Most patients are comfortable and presentable within one to two weeks.

Functional lid surgery (where drooping significantly impairs vision) may be available on the NHS but waiting times in South Devon can be significant. Cosmetic blepharoplasty is not available on the NHS. Devon Eyes offers both functional and cosmetic lid surgery privately with short waiting times.
Most patients are comfortable within one to two weeks. Swelling and bruising typically resolve over two to four weeks. Sutures come out at about one week. Final results are usually seen by six to eight weeks.
Both conditions are most commonly caused by age-related laxity of the eyelid tissues. Ectropion (outward-turning lid) causes watering and irritation. Entropion (inward-turning lid) causes lashes to rub the eye and can damage the cornea. Both are corrected with a short day-case procedure.
